MASTER REPAIRERS

Welcome to the Society of Master Repairers Where Tradition Meets Trust. The Society of Master Repairers stands as the UK and Ireland’s leading accreditation body for repair professionals—a trusted name that connects consumers with skilled tradespeople and honours the craftsmanship at the heart of our industry. But this is more than just a modern platform. It’s the continuation of a proud lineage that stretches back centuries. Our story begins with the legacy of St. Crispin, the patron saint of shoemakers and cobblers. For generations, tradespeople gathered in guilds to celebrate their craft and uphold standards. These early societies—particularly active in the 18th and 19th centuries—formed a foundation of mutual respect, shared knowledge, and professional pride. In Scotland and beyond, groups such as the Royal Ancient Order of St. Crispin hosted annual gatherings and rituals in honour of the trade. These were not just ceremonial—they were communities built around honouring skill and supporting fellow craftspeople. Fast-forward to the 20th century, and the UK saw a transformation in how the shoe and boot trades were organised. In 1963, the St. Crispin’s Society of Shoemen merged with the National Boot Trades Association to form the St. Crispin’s Boot Trades Association, laying the groundwork for a more unified voice in the industry. Then, in 1984, this body was renamed the Society of Master Shoe Repairers—a title that reflected its growing national presence and relevance. As repair services evolved beyond footwear alone, the Society adapted once more, broadening its remit and becoming what it is today: the Society of Master Repairers. We are proud to carry this legacy forward. Joining the Society today means becoming part of that rich tradition while gaining all the tools needed to succeed in a fast-changing, digital-first world. Members receive formal accreditation, enhanced consumer trust, and a prominent place in our nationally promoted “Find a Repairer” directory—helping the public find real professionals in their area. From key cutters and watch technicians to heritage restorers and master cobblers, we support every corner of the repair sector with marketing, exposure, and credibility. If you're a dedicated professional committed to quality and looking to grow your customer base, this is your place. The Society is here to help you elevate your business, preserve your craft, and stand out for the right reasons. Your skills deserve to be recognised. Your business deserves to be trusted. Your trade deserves a platform built for excellence. Become part of a legacy. Be seen. Be respected. Be chosen.
